I never had much faith in leaders. I am willing to be charged with almost anything, rather than to be charged with being a leader. … I would be ashamed to admit that I had risen from the ranks. When I rise it will be with the ranks, and not from the ranks.
Eugene V. Debs
Who we are
Our “Why”
Our ultimate goal is to put power back into the hands of the working class!
As socialists, a big part of this “why” comes down to showing that we won’t give up on electoralism. We won’t allow the Republicans and Democrats to force us out of politics! We’re here, we do the hard work, and we’re ready to do what it takes to get socialists in office!
Our Vision
We all share a vision where our politicians actually listen to the people they represent!
We have lost trust with almost all of our elected representatives and they know they have nothing to worry about because they run in a “safe” district. The working class should have the final say and where politicians are beholden to the will of the people rather than to the highest bidder.
Our Goal
Our goal is to put more socialists into office
We want to have at least two members of our KCMO city council as endorsed socialists in office. Additionally, we’d like to expand our presence into Kansas on the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and into Johnson County to provide alternatives to the corporate-backed politicians that currently hold those seats.
Our Work
Our “why”, vision, and goals provide outlets for each member to do meaningful work in the pursuit of electoral power.
We have a Socialists in Office (SIO) Subcommittee, Legislative Subcommittee, and a Voters Deserve More (VDM) Subcommittee dedicated to ensuring the people have a voice when they vote instead of having false choices or safe districts.
We participate in elections not because we believe the system is perfect, but because we believe in expanding democracy and fighting for working people wherever possible.
Subcommittees
Legislative Subcommittee
The Legislative Subcommittee serves as the policy intelligence and advocacy arm, providing comprehensive monitoring and analysis of legislative developments across Missouri and Kansas.
This subcommittee ensures that our organization remains informed about the evolving political landscape and can respond strategically to legislative threats and opportunities.
Voters Deserve More (VDM) Subcommittee
The Voters Deserve More (VDM) Subcommittee is committed to advancing electoral reforms that strengthen democratic participation and ensure that every vote carries meaningful weight.
This subcommittee challenges the structural barriers that limit voter choice and perpetuate political inequality, working to create a more representative and responsive democratic system.
Endorsement
The Electoral Committee handles our endorsement process. If you’re seeking an endorsement from the KC DSA, here are the steps of that process.
- Submit this questionnaire
- Vibe check with a 3 people in the committee
- Open meeting for those in the committee
- Town Hall with the whole of the chapter
- Vote by the chapter for endorsement
